Keep Warm This Winter
With Summer feeling like a distant memory I wanted to concentrate on the Autumn/Winter months and keeping warm.
With the current issues we still find ourselves in with rising energy costs, I wanted to help with some fun, low cost ideas on how to stay warm without resorting to knocking up the temperature on the heating!
It is time to take matters into our own hands so here are 5 simple ways you can warm up your room without touching your heating or breaking the bank.
Number 1. Flames & Candles
Fire is hot (obviously!) so seeing a flame tells our minds that there is warmth. Having candles and dim lighting helps to relax you, but it also tricks your mind into thinking the room is warm.
Bored of plain candles? Sabel Lane has a huge range of beautiful candle holders to suit all tastes and budgets. Click here to choose yours and get your rooms feeling warm and homely.
Number 2. Soft Furnishings
The cosier and softer our furnishings look, the more snuggly we feel. (It's not science but it certainly feels true!)
So how are your soft furnishings looking? If a little bare, you may want to consider adding some thick blankets and also some fluffy cushions to burry yourself in.
Sabel Lane has some wonderfully soft cushions from Wrendale Designs. They are feather filled to give extra comfort. Click to view them here.
Number 3. Colours
It's funny how a colour can trick our minds. If I asked how you felt when you saw the colours white and blue together, how would it make you feel?
By adding warm colours to your home (such as reds, browns and oranges) it will soon create that warming feeling throughout. Here are some ideas to get you thinking, just click here.
Number 4. Curtains & Doors
My most common phrase used at home through colder months is "close the door!" As soon as you close doors and curtains it instantly feels more snug.
It's almost as if we are hibernating (as humans we feel more tired in the Autumn/Winter due to a state of wanting to hibernate) so sometimes it is ok to give in!
If you live in an older home you may get a few more drafts throughout, so using draft excluders and doorstops will help keep drafts out and doors closed.
Sabel Lane has a wonderful collection so click here to check them out.
Number 5. Make it homely!
If you don't fill the room you want to warm with all the things you love, how can you feel warmth?
Fill it full of artwork or photographs of your favourite places (I hope it's not Iceland!) and animals, vases with dried flowers to remind you of warmer days, fluffy plush characters and ornaments of your favourite animal or that resembles a pet.
It all helps. You may not have the "Instagramable house" but you will thank me for having a warm - and your idea of - a perfect home.
If your idea of a perfect home is filled with everything countryside too, then you are in the right place. Click here to view the full collection and get your home snug and cosy.

[Please note: none of the above are facts. These ideas come from experience, and living in a home where we play the game "how far into Winter can we go before we have to put the heating on!"
If you are sceptical, fair enough, but what can it hurt to give these things a try? It won't cost much money especially if you already have these items in your home anyway]
